Nomad Camping

What are the minimum items you take on a motorcycle camping trip that you consider mandatory?

Waving

Hi
A few years ago, I went to Cape Bretton Island to ride the Cabot Trail. I wanted to camp so I packed up tent, sleeping bag, a good queen size air mattress, air pump, a very portable stove, I use a Primus Classic Trail LPG Stove, dry food, I prefer the Mountain Houser brand, lots of choices. I use a French Press for my morning Coffee.
Then your cloths as needed, rain suit, tools for the trip.
I was on the road for a week.
I did enjoy it.
Good luck!

PS: I do not own a trailer like you do, so you can pack some extras....:)

Our camping trip went from the first picture to this. It was a great light show on the way home.

Is that tent on the trailer? Is it a solo tent for 1 person?

How fast can you go with that thing set up? All I consider mandatory is beer.

No the tent is on the ground behind the trailer. It's an 8x9 tent. We got to the campground that afternoon with the weather clear and the weather people said any storms were going to the east away from where we were. About 4 hours later the storms started rolling in on top of us (heavy lightning and 70 mph winds). We packed everything up real quick and got parked under a shed at the sign in office. After the rains passed we rode back home about midnight. The lightning was shooting all over the sky. It was a pretty sight that you could see real well on the motorcycle. We never got wet.

Did the tent ever get wet? How is that tent in a hard rain? Who made / makes it? I have 2 back packing tents, one is for dead winter and would make people suffer from their own breath in 3 seasons, the other is well vented, but not suitable for a snow storm.

I tested it and what happens in the poles start to collapse towards one another centering snow weight dead center on the tent material. The 3 season tent weighs around 6 lbs with all the frills, and the dead winter tent weighs 7 with the same.

Frills are stakes, a ground foot print and a inner foot print so the real tent floor doesn't get wear directly.

You can't buy either tent anymore, new anyway. of course you can't stand up in these either, and depending i may carry one of a number of tarps for that reason.

The 3 season tent will stop rain to about 25 mph and allow a mist to enter at wind speeds over that.

The winter tent will stop rain dead to about 75 mph.

Its a lightweight Ozark Mountain tent we got on sale at Wal-Mart. It's only been wet one time and that wasn't a hard rain. It never leaked. It has a rain cover that goes over the tent and it's well ventilated. Cheap tent but good for a weekend every now and then.

I tend to like gray tents best, after that cheery yellow suits me on a gray day. My dead last choice is a tent with a blue top, so that light coming thru makes everything a blue tint like people are dead! Eeewww

And green is runner up to blue.

In NH you can get pinned down in gray and rain if not snow. Of the 2 I prefer snow, and what i consider the best camping weather starts at +10 and goes to around -40 below.

No bugs

I guess #1 on the list should be a motorcycle.

Have you ever been camping before? What do you consider mandatory equipment?

For me (now that I'm old and don't sleep on the ground without cover anymore) a tent, sleeping bag, food, water, and a light. At a camp site with electricity it would be nice to carry a radio, fan, and extension cord. Also it's nice to have the wife along too.

When we crossed the USA (we is me and my wife) we towed a trailer with a lot of camping gear, and I also had a basket pack (real antique) filled with a set of clothing suited to 1805 for each of us and one of my long rifles. Oh I have a sort of pic (edited)

I was hoping to trip over any Lewis and Clark camp settings and celebrations.

My wife edited out some stuff but i forget why now.
