Very fast idle on cold start normal?

When I fire up the bike cold, the idle really is high. It doesn't stay on fast idle that long but is there enough oil in the top for those high rpm's? ???

Very fast idle on cold start normal?

Everyone says not to worry about it, I asked the same thing as mine goes pretty high on start up also. If it ever warms up in minnesota then they don't go up like that!

Mine does it too, when I pull out the "choke".

Very fast idle on cold start normal?

I never use the knob when starting, and I don't have the cold-start solenoids installed anymore either so my bike will not idle by itself when cold.

I found that the knob is hard to regulate, and regulating the idle from the twist grip is just easier for me.
Anyhow, I have a Vista Cruise. I just crack the throttle a bit and the engine starts right up. If I need to take my hand off the throttle I set the Vista Cruise on to hold the idle up.

Some guys like to set the idle up and warm the engine while they get their helmet and stuff on, but I do not like to run the engine unless I'm sitting on the bike. I watched a cold Norton on high idle lurch itself into gear once, and the owner was standing there yakking as it bolted across the lane and into a parked car. Since then I've been very leary of leaving unattended equipment running.

Have never used the choke. The bike's idle starts low for a brief second then zooms up to fast idle. How long the bike fast idles depends on the temp outside then it finally falls back to a normal idle.

When it fast idles, put it in gear and release the clutch. You'll go far if you follow this advice. Otherwise don't worry, it is designed to do that.
