Spontaneous Clock Reset

My 2006 Nomad with 27K miles on it runs great. The clock resets itself to 1:00 when the bike is turned off. It this a known problem? Is this tiny problem an indicator of a bigger problem? My battery is a 4 year old glass mat.

Thanks for your help.

Ride Safe !

Generally i think the clock resetting is a sign your battery is going. I had the same problem and after replacing the battery this summer it has not happened again.

Probably low voltage from a weak battery. Fix it now before you get stranded.

What the heck...we're still on page one so I'll throw in another opinion. Either you live in a twilight zone time zone where its always 1 o'clock OR....your battery is going bad.
It seems to be a quirk of the electrical system on 1600's that when your battery starts to weaken it causes the clock and trip meter to reset. Probably not engineered to do that but it's been proven repeatedly to work as a weak battery warning indicator.

Too bad it doesn't reset the odometer to zero, rather than the tripmeter, there would be lots of low mileage Nomads around.

We would never have to buy another bike, It would be a low mile bike forever.

The memory that retains the clock and the trip meter only functions at a minimum voltage. When the battery voltage drops below that minimum the memory clears.

As the battery ages, it finally reaches the point that while starting the engine the voltage drops below the minimum required to maintain the memory. As a result the clock resets and the trip meter clears to zero.

It doesn't affect the odometer since it is protected by non-volatile memory rather than by the main battery.

Yoiu and 3 friends all have to put your hands on it at the same time, there will be some butterflies, but it will be good as new, fully charged battery FOREVER, and best of all the odometer will run backwards.

It usually happens when you go to crank the bike. The starter pulls the battery below the normal voltage. I was getting it all the time with a battery that didn't have enough cranking amps. Since I switched to the lithium ion battery with 480 cranking amps it hasn't happened.
