Have you had to replace a saddle bag?

Has anyone had to replace their saddle bag(s)? I took a spill and need to replace my left side saddle bag. Does anyone know the best place to pick up new OEM parts? Or for that matter, does anyone know someone looking to be rid of a set of saddle bags? I know that probably isn't a normal thing to be getting rid of, but I still have to ask, heh. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

They are way to expensive to buy from MaKaw. They appear on Ebay every now and then. Thats where I would look.

Yeah a complete new one is way over $1000 for the parts & then you have to put it together. It does come painted though.

What happens a lot is this: One on a new bike gets scratched up a little, and the insurance company replaces it rather than repainting it. The slightly scratched one goes up for sale on eBay.

Also, somebody without insurance smashes one up, finds they can't afford a replacement, so takes the other one off & sells it on eBay. (or wherever.)

Ebay is the first place I'd check, you often see them there, sometimes just a door if you don't need the complete box.

The door and the rest of it are sold separately. Do you need all of it, or just a door?

Fortunately when I did the "concrete slide" my bags only got scratched up. They did have to replace the hinges on one bag and the latch on the other, and the trim stripes on one side, but the bags faired well. Nico might have some words of wisdom for bag transplants.

The parts for the bags are quite costly, I priced out a latch handle here a couple years ago and it was about $120.00. I can't remember the prices of the trim strips but they where very expensive for what you get. I do have the p/n for them if anybody ever does need to get some.

Having mine redone right now from the guy that bumped mine over at a gas station. I oppted to have the where the strips went to filled in leaving the bag smooth. Will post pics when it is all completed.
Ebay for parts and such would be the first place to look.

Nope, I need the whole thing. Went down going about 25-30 on the highway and pretty much destroyed the one bag. Not much else got busted up thankfully, including me or my wife.

Glad it was only the bag and not you or your bride that got busted up.

I heard a report once upon a time of a So Cal temporary patch using bungee cords and maybe packing tape?
Your actual mileage may vary, not available in stores, some assembly required, objects in mirror are closer than they appear.

Corona
Try Britt Motorsports 888-386-1107. They strip and chop/customize bikes and sell the parts that they take off. I believe they are in Jax.Florida. I was told by a friend that he bought stock fenders for a VN900 from them and a set of stock pipes.
Good luck.
