In this case, money is the object. Wide range of pricing and the most expensive is arguably the best. That being said, opinions are like arses, everybody has one. My preference has always been for the Mustang. Not necessarily because it's the best, but it works very well at the price. Had them on both 1500 and 1600. I liked it better on the 1600 because it's built a little different for that bike and the pillion seat pushes forward over the riders seat to form a nice backrest of sorts. Not aaallllll day comfortable, but with the addition of a sheepskin mighty nice!

I had my factory rebuilt by Seth Laam http://laamseats.com/. Great job, and we now ride without any discomfort. Choice of leather or vinyl, in different colors. Finished product was great, and from door to door about 10 days.
There are a number of other options, and I tried a couple, but we liked this the best. Cost effective, and set up for us. Hope this helps.

Check out Daylong seats. I had them on my 1600 Nomad and my Voyager.
Mustang seats did not do much for me on a Virago, not much better than the stock seat which was awful.

I had a Mustang on my 650 Yamaha Silverado and it didn't work for me at all. The stock seat was more tolerable.
I have an Ultimate seat on my 08 that I bought on Ebay and it works fairly well. I do stop every 160/180 miles for gas and a break though. That being said, I have never heard anyone with a Russel Day Long seat say anything bad about them.

Russell Daylong seats made a huge difference in the ride comfort on my bike.

The only minor complaint I have with the russell day long is that the "wings" on the drivers part tend to make you move forward on the seat at stops, but once you are rolling the shape and support are very good, I have had the mustang and other seats and so far the RDL is the best I have had.

I had a Mustang seat on my suzuki C50T, my 2007 Nomad, and I have one on my Harley now. The last two with rider backrest. I highly recommend the backrest. They are great seats and won't destroy your wallet.

Any of the ready made seats will work if you aren't a big guy. They simply wont support a big guy with a wide butt. A Laam doesn't cost much more than a mustang and is way better If you plan on long rides
Don't go cheap on the seat check around and find out what the long riders are using and then make your choice

Don't waste your money experimenting, Russell Day Long is the only way to go. The Nomad is big enough to carry this seat well and the wings really are not an issue.

Daylong since 07. Great investment and you will get accustomed to having to move forward at stops.

Corbin Seat
I went with the Corbin seat. And I asked for a touring type seat. I happened to live close enough I rode to their factory. I was able to stand there and watch them make it. Before they covered it, my wife and I was able to take a test ride with it. When we returned I asked for some changes which they did, No additional charges. I have put some 12 hour days on it and have not had any issues, and my wife was happy. At the time they would do one alteration, no charge, as long as the cover did no need to be changed.
I highly recommend you call and talk to them before you make a decision, you will find them here, http://corbin.com/wheretobuy.shtml.

Just got the Mustang vintage touring seat for my Vaquero with driver and passenger back rests. Super comfortable so far. And I agree with Cactus Jack, you cant beat a driver backrest on a long ride. That being said I still use the stock seat which is comforatable for me and I like the solo gunner look on the Vaquero.
