How to remove Front axle from a 1700 Nomad
I was wanting to remove my front wheel asembly to have a new tire installed. Only problem was the 22mm resessed axle end. I was going to rig up a 22mm hex bolt with a couple of jam nuts on the other end to remove the axle, but found a much better solution. I took a 13/16 spark plug socket from my Craftsman tool set and the hex end of the socket fits perfectly into the axle end. I then took my short extension and inserted it through the socket from the oposite end. Now I was able to attach my 3/8 ratchet to the socket and easily remove the axle. Had the wheel off in no time. End result is the ratchet looks like the spark plug socket is attatched upside down. I know they make special sockets for the job, but I just couldn't justify the cost for a tool I would only use once every three or four years. Hope this helps a few home mechanics!!
