Canadians wanting to Ivanize
There seems to be a good number of Canadians on this site, so I thought I would post my experience and costs to send my ECU to Ivan's for flashing.
I sent it out on February 03 from Canada Post, and it cost me $39.44 Canadian insured for 800 dollars. Then I received it on February 16th. From my credit card statement I had paid $555.78 Canadian for the service and shipping back to me. Total cost 39.44 + 555.78 = $595.22 Canadian. Hope this helps someone as "I" had no idea as to how much it was going to cost me. I might add I didn't think it was so bad and am glad I did it. Of course I can't try it yet, still snow and salt for us here. Arnold

Looks Expensive on the surface. What is the actual US Dollar cost? Would it save any to ship to the US then have someone reship to Ivan? Then back again?

So that's 450 US, and includes shipping. Not that much more than doing it in the US really.

I may have Ivan do my ECU after warrantee expires. Have 5 months of winter to send it in so I wont have any extra down time. I do all my major maintenance during the snow months.

Fullcircle you might as well send it in now. I doubt if the gear heads at a Kawasaki shop will ever know it has been Ivanized as all he does is put a sticker on the ECU and engrave a invoice number on the case. It is all hidden away anyways unless you would have a problem with ECU they would never pull the case out and see that it has been Ivanized.
I would do it now get it back for spring you will be much happier camper having had it done.

As I have a 2015, noticing the O2 sensor disconnected is a dead giveaway.
Not to start a debate here, but I have been a mechanic for one of the big 3 manufactures for 27 years. In that time I have seen and been involved in denying warrantee on several vehicles due to "performance enhancement devices", especially on diesel vehicles. All 3 are very specific that if they are installed all powertrain warrantee is void. I can wait. |

Im in the same boat as fullcircle. I made the mistake of asking my dealer about piggyback tuners and Ivans flash. he told me he has no problem with the piggyback tuners, but if he finds out I had the ECU flashed he will make me deal with kawasaki personaly before doing any warranty work on ANY part of the bike!! wether he is right or wrong, I have no choise but to wait for the warranty to expire or take a chance that nothing breaks. this dealer is the only one within 400 miles. I have warranty until sept. 2019.
Ive only been back to the dealership twice since then for the first service and for a new rear tire. I do my own oil changes since then.

I have been very lucky with my local dealer here in town. He has no problem with the reflash and I remind him not to plug in the 02Sensor when he works on it.

I sent mine last spring from near Kingston Ontario to Ivan. Cost about the same at roughly $600 Canadian. Mine is a 2014 Voyager. I have about 15,000 kms on the new tune. Kawi should have done this from the factory!! Fuel mileage I didn't see much if any improvement, but performance improvement is off the chart. I ride allot two up and also pull a Bushtek trailer. So much better then the first summer when i rode to Arizona two up with the trailer. Not complaining about the ride or performance then but the bike pulls much better now. has more torque at highway speed with all the extra weight. if your on the fence send it in now and have it back in and ready for first ride so your not having to wait and stare at your ride while others are riding.
But I will say if I do ride conservatively, and stay off the highway I can get 330 kms (204 mile) to a tank. That's pulling to gas hoping it doesn't run out.

Since we are on the topic of Ivan's flash.
I have no interest in changing the exhaust or intake on my bike. Is the flash really going to make much of a power difference? Or will I mostly notice improved drivability? |

Here's what it does:
Navigate: Home | Find your bike | ECU | TRE | FCE| Contact | Other Products | News | Testimonials Kawasaki VN1700 Page Ivan's® ECU flash for: Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 models - $350.00 2009 - 2017 Kawasaki VN1700 Voyager - Available Now !! 2009 - 2014 Kawasaki VN1700 Nomad - Available Now !! 2011 - 2017 Kawasaki VN1700 Vaquero - Available Now !! 2009 - 2013 Kawasaki VN1700 Classic - Available Now !! REQUIRES PREMIUM FUEL !! My ECU tuning philosophy and more ECU info can be found on this page: ECU PAGE When sending your ECU, please print and fill out THIS VN1700 FORM I will contact you for your payment after I receive your ECU. I am pleased to announce that I have successfully re-programmed the stock Kawasaki VN1700 ECU to my own exacting specifications as listed below. Want your VN1700 to feel like it has real throttle cables? More than 1 year of R&D has been spent on this project !! Driveability and tuning issues cannot be completely solved with an external fuel tuner, This is the best result in driveability and power possible anywhere for this model - our proprietary software guarantees it. My Kawasaki VN1700 ECU programming (Re-Flash) includes the following: 1) Fix all inherent fueling problems inside the ECU. (the ones that cannot be fixed with an external fuel tuner. Includes fueling changes - External fuel tuner not needed for 95% of setups - just plug in and go !! 2) Disable fuel cut a) Gets rid of poor throttle transitions from closed throttle. b) Gets rid of annoying popping and banging during decel and also jerky response when re-applying the throttle from closed. c) Throttle modulation is noticeably improved over what can be achieved with a fuel tuner alone. d) Dramatic improvement upon re-application from closed throttle (in all riding conditions). 3) Close AIS valve electronically No need for block-off plates for air injection system. 4) Cooling Fan comes on at 200 degrees and goes off at 188 5) Re-program Kawasaki ETV (Electronic Throttle Valve) for linear throttle opening and remove power restrictions (Responds and feels just like a cable throttle) a) This allows a more sensitive throttle that is easy to control. If you ask for 10% throttle opening, you get 10% throttle opening b) Works well with stock or aftermarket throttle tubes c) Allows full 100% throttle opening whenever you open the throttle, just like a cable throttle. 6 ) Complete custom re-curve of ignition timing a) Gets rid of part throttle timing retarder for more response and less vibration when cruising and moderate acceleration. b) Gets rid of ignition timing issues that are unique to the VN1700's c) Set timing for maximium power and driveability across the entire rpm range & all throttle positions d) Adjust timing to be the same for all gears. 7) Reduced heavy engine braking on decel. More relaxed gear changes and throttle modulation at all speeds. 8) Reduced running temperatures. 9) All power limiters removed 10) All driveability inhibitors removed 11) Free upgrades when/if we make improvements. 12) Return your ecu back to stock at no charge for any reason. (shipping not included) 13) Anything that compromises performance and/or driveability is eliminated. ---- External fuel tuner not needed for most (95%) setups !! All testing was done in house on the above VN1700's Dyno tuning not necessary !! We can reprogram for the following markets: |
