Frayed Throttle Cable.

In changing grips on my '06 Nomad I noticed a few frayed strands on handle bar end of cable. What's involved in changing the cables besides disconnecting at switch housing?

Mine frayed in the same spot when I had my 06 Nomad. You unhook it from the other end, then un-attach it in a few spots as it is tied to the handle bars and frame. It was a very easy job.

Find out why it frayed. Might be a burr on the lever that needs to be filed down.

Also, just before you assemble and add your spray, add a small amount of extra-fine graphite powder, work it in good, then add a little more graphite. This will keep you lubed for years with little or no wear.....

just wondering, about the sliding metal cable on the inside of the rubber cable holder, can the metal cable be taken out to grease the whole length of it and then reassembled? I'm talking throttle cables. but I also have rear brake cable and clutch cable, it would be nice to disassemble the cables to put grease on them

1- Does the tank have to come off or lifted?

2- A quick check shows cables are about $30 each. Any alternatives?

Thanks.

Get a cable repair kit from ebay for much less.It consist's of 2 cables, and a series of various size/shape,nipples.Use your ebay, this is the uk site.Doing it this way,you dont need to remove the tank either.Just cut the cable at the carb/injector end, pull it from the throttle end, then thread the new one back.Having said that,i have no experience of doing it on the FI bikes. So i dont know how easy it is to get at.
