Self cancelling turn signal box.
Awhile back someone posted a modification to the stock turn signal box to work with led lights. I don't remember who it was. I was showing a way to open the box and change a resistor inside to slow down the rate of flash.
If any one else remembers this post please tell me if I am dreaming or loosing my mind. Thanks Slim

Wait, the nomad's have self canceling turn signals?
*I can't help you with your question, but it posed my own question. Haha. |

This might help???
http://vulcanbagger.com/forums/showt...ht=turn+signal I just searched turn signal and came up with a bunch of results. http://vulcanbagger.com/forums/searc...archid=1191083

Yeah, chiming in here. Mine be like, sometimes it cancels, sometimes not. Am quite sure I read an excellent post here with pics, where someone took box all apart, lubricated the stuff inside and regained total functionality. I'm so used to just pushing to cancel I don't even think about it. I will probably dive into the box and do the lube and possibly new spring thing. Mean time, make sure to push that silly button so you look like a perfessional rider.

The problem with led turn signals is that they do not draw enough power by themselves to operate the turn signal box. My understanding is that the older boxes have an element that heats up as the turn signal is activated and then the contacts separate, it cools down, reheats, click click click. Incandescent lights draw enough current. Led's do not, element does not heat enough, cools faster, higher click rate.
In order to draw enough current you have to wire a load resistor across the led light, to draw lots of current (not saving any power). This load resistor gets very hot, you have to heat sink somewhere on the frame of the bike. You may consider other options. Attach led light strips parallel to the incandescent standard lights, attaching the strips around the mirrors, or along the sides of the windshield, or around the existing turn signals, on the crash bar, whatever. You are using the incandescents as the primary load instead of the load resistor. gaining an extra set of turn signals My own personal preference is to get cheap turn signal mirrors from China. I like them. Again you are using the incandescent turn signals as the primary load to draw enough current NEW Free Shipping Universal 8MM 10MM Motorcycle LED Turn Signal Light Rearview Mirror Street Bike paste the above on aliexpress.com and search. the html is incredibly long. Your other choices. When I researched the matter, there was a plug in replacement turn signal box, however, you lose the self-cancelling feature which depends on input from the bike. If self-cancelling does not matter to you, the easier way to go. If I have time and you are interested I may try to refind it. It depends on electronics not a heated and cooling element. There are also other electronic ones which may require you to attach appropriate plugs, again you lose the self-cancelling feature. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2-Pin-Motorcy...dYdziM&vxp=mtr Do not know if the above is appropriate for your use, only given as an quick example. there are others with varying prices on ebay. There's a resistor inside the Kawasaki turn signal box. I saw on some posting that you could change the value and make it work with leds. I can't find it now that I want it.

This is the article I was asking about in my opening post.

Does anyone have an old FB275H flasher. I need one to experiment with

Wow, from the need for load resistors never would have thought it was an electronic flasher.
But found some info on a royal star venture site which may prove useful The missing part of the puzzle is therefore: 4NK-83350-00-00: the signal auto-cancel relay, a custom part by Denso (FB257H/066500-4120). OEM MSRP is a bit over 100USD and it can be found on eBay for as low as half that. To add insult to injury, there's many versions of the FB257H, only differing in the last four digits of the P/N (the 4120 above). For example, the Yamaha V-Stars use the -4660 while the Kawasaki Vulcans use the -4890. Those digits seem to encode the particulars of the auto-cancel signal input as different bikes will either use a reed switch triggered by the mechanical speedometer or a Hall-effect speed sensor like on the RSV. Also, on some bikes this is a full-fledged flasher + auto-cancel relay while on the RSV it only does the auto-cancel part. This is the part I need ... time to go shopping :-) |

I put the .33 ohm resistor in the signal flasher and it works.

Resistor and relay modification
I know this is really an old thread but I'm kind of hoping somebody's still watching it or we'll get notified with this. But I found somewhere about a month ago basically the same as what this thread is asking showing about taking apart the blinker relay/self canceling in it and putting a resistor in there. I have searched and searched and cannot seem to find this post again and I'd really like to find out how to put that resistor in there to be able to put LEDs in all four lights. I plan on buying a blinker relay unit and modifying that one not modifying the one on the bike and then swapping it if it works. If somebody knows where I can buy one that's already been modified that I can swap it on to my bike that would be even better. Thank you for any help anybody can give me.
And I'm guessing before I want to know but I have a 2011 vulcan in 1700 nomad
