Dummy Light
Someone posted recently that their red charging light was coming on for a few seconds when they first started their bike. We all made the assumption that it most likely was the battery going bad. This started happening to me recently and in my troubleshooting, I found that the battery maintainer that I was using was only maintaining the battery to just a little over 12 volts and not the 13.6 volts normally seen. The charger was actually dragging the battery down to 12volts and maintaining it there.
I own a Genius smart charger and used it to properly charge the battery and verify it was good. I remembered that I only recently used the substandard charger on that battery so, I tested it on another battery and sure enough, it only charged that battery to a little over 12 volts. Lesson learned is never assume your charger is doing the right thing even if it appears to be. ![]() Login or Register to Remove Ads |
