Electrical Issue

Need help if this has happened to someone else, have a 07 Nomad when I turned it on yesterday it acted fine lights came on and fuel pump like always, when I hit the starter the dash lights dimmed and it acted like a loose battery post. I turned the switch on several times and a couple of times it came on normal till I hit the starter then it clicks under the right side cover and goes dim again, I cleaned the battery posts and the battery tests fine also checked all the fuses and wiggled all the connections, now when the switch is turned on the lights come on but the fuel pump does not whine and if you leave the switch on for a few seconds the lights get dim like the battery is dead. Hooked jumper cables to it just to make sure it's not some kind of battery issue. I'm thinking it's something under the right side cover. If anyone can shed any light on this it would be great.

You said the battery tests fine. How did you test it?
Take it out and take to auto zone or someplace else and have it load tested.

I had a bad battery in an 08 nomad and it wouldn't jump start of a car either.

Sounds like a bad battery to me.

When I hooked jumpers to it wouldn't that have given it ample fire to charge the system, I figured it would start with jumpers even if it didn't have a battery, I didn't test the battery with a load tester and the battery is in need of replacement so i'm gonna do that first and go from there. These rigs do some strange things and I hope you're right.

Let us know if the new battery fixes it. I think it will.

Just ordered a new battery, I live in Western N.C. just a few miles from Deals Gap so places to buy a new battery are slim, as soon as I get get it installed i'll let you know the result and once again I hope your right in your thinking.

Probably is the battery....BUT, if its not, its either the ground or theres a dirty, loose or corroded power lead there in the system....
If these bikes don't have a good ground....it causes all kinds of mess....

Update on this issue is this, installed new battery lights responded normal needle went over and back starter worked fine, Fuel pump did not prime. Checked 15 amp main fuse and it was fine fuel pump relay clicks when switch is turned on but pump does not run.

I had these same issues, but it was a loose power lead. Somehow between tightening it and a little time working on cleaning up, the positive lead was loose enough to cause this. Finally figured it out, tightened it back up and good to go since.

Just finished putting a new battery in but I can check the connections, the fuel pump relay clicks when the switch is turned on which leads me to believe the switch is ok, will the fuel pump relay still click even if it might be bad bad?

Yes, the control side could still work, But the contact side could still be burnt or corroded where it does't make connection and send power to the pump.
You need to volt meter the connections on at the pump to see if its getting power when you turn it on.

to update this issue, I noticed this morning when I held my ear to the tank I could hear a very slight buzzing and was afraid the fuel pump had went out. I then changed the fuel pump relay and it fixed the problem I guess the low voltage from my battery did it in or perhaps when I tried to jump it, At any rate i'm back on the road. I guess the relay wasn't sending enough voltage to the pump to cycle it. I learned from this that even though the relay was clicking like it was suppose to it was still bad. Should have changed the battery before it came to this.
