Mean Streak gauges on a Classic?

I am planning a frame mounted Pacifico Shadow fairing for the conversion of my Classic to a "vintage" Vaquero style touring bike. I have two Mean Streak fuel tanks I bought for $30 that I would use to make a larger capacity fuel tank by using the bottom half of one with the top half of the other, with an overlap to increase the tank height by at least an inch.

I may also then go for gauges mounted in the fairing rather than on the tank top like on the Classic. So finally the question. Will a gauge set from a Mean Streak plug into the wiring harness for the Classic? Would the speedo woirk with the connection into the Classic harness? I know there is no tach on a Classic so that is an issue. My Classic does have an aftermarket tach on it so I may be able to wire the MS tach to the same connection.

Oh, and if possible, can the miles on the odometer be set to match the miles I have on my Classic?

Though I'm not positive about it, I don't believe they will as the wiring harness is not the same. Diff. type of speedo, plus a dedicated tach, + only 1 stator on the MS....
Just looking at my shop manual, the plugs are diff. for instrumentation, etc....

I'd expect the wiring harnesses to be different. Just wondering if one can be adopted to the other. Some functions between the two models are similar: low fuel light, water temp indicator light, oil pressure indicator light, speedometer, Mode/Reset buttons. But some functions are very different: the Classic has the fuel level indicators, none of that on the Mean Streak. So there has to be some similar wiring functions in the harness for each bike.

Well, if you built a speciality plug setup, yes, it would probably be workable. If you knew a electrical engineer, he could probe and test and wouldn't have any problems.

Dakota digital has made gauge connectors for the Mean Streaks with their custom gauges....

That's what I'm thinking. Compare the wiring diagrams. Make some jumper connections and see what needs to be modified to get the right Classic system signals to the Mean Streak gauges.

So if I find a deal on a Mean Streak gauge set, I might go for it. But, I'd want the mileage on the gauges to match the actual miles on my Classic. So,..any ideas on how to advance the miles on a set of gauges with less miles than my Classic. I assume the speedo gets input from some sort of sensor, either on the front wheel or an output sensor on the driveshaft?

OK, if you find a Speedo tech place, you can send them the speedo, send them a pic of your old speedo, along with the VIN, they'll give you a receipt, where they have calibrated the gauge to your bikes mileage....
The DOT has to get their couple of oz's of flesh, so-to-speak. The Gov. is all about making money....
Anyway, that way your free and clear of any schit, and the speedo is correct for the next guy to buy your bike....

Thanks DL, that's the kind of info I need to decide if I go ahead on this. I'd guess the speedo service would have to be about $100. That, and I need to find a speedo service shop. Also, I'd have to get the gauges at a low price to keep the total cost down.
