1700 Nomad/interesting issue
Hey, all. Just took my new to me '14 Nomad out for its shake down cruise and came up with an odd issue. My beard is in the way. :) Let me explain. My beard is between chest and belly length. I tied it up at the top (chin level) but as I'm riding, the wind whips the rest of the beard around and I have some trouble seeing. I have the windscreen all the way up. There's no buffeting (much better than my old '07 Nomad in that respect). I have a set of crash bar close outs on the way. I tried tucking it in my jacket but the wind ended up pulling out back out.
I can put like (40) ties in my beard that might keep it in place but then I might just have (1) big piece of beard smacking me in the face. :) I can wear a single beard tie @ work but any more than that and I start looking "less professional" and I plan to ride to work every day I can. What's the solution? Anybody else have a big beard and have this problem? Everything is stock on the bike. Would larger lower deflectors (Chuckster calls them "wind guards") help? As always, thanks in advance.

Troy---Not sure if that was meant as a joke but that or something similar might very well work. My beard is thin but long. Thanks!
idhthept---Good deal. Will Chucksters larger deflectors work w/either the JDT (whatever they're called) hard lowers and/or leather close outs? If so, I'll order a set from Chucksters this week. Thank you, sir!

The JTD Lowers Touch the small factory Deflectors . I think You will have to stick to the Leather or leave the small ones . On another note I bought a set of 1st series JTD used last week and they will require trimming to work on the 1700 . have not decided yet if it is worth it or call Joe for larger deflectors . but on the Beard thing wait until your crash bar chaps get there I think You will notice a difference ! I will find out shipping on the backrest Monday . Our 2 stoplight town closes Friday to Monday .

Sounds like the JTD hard lowers are out. I don't want to have to modify much of anything on this bike if I can avoid it. For the most part, if it's not plug-n-play, I don't need it with the possible exception of the backrest (I want to lower it, if possible). If you end up trimming the JTD lowers, take some pics/video so others know what to do, please. I'll see how the breeze is once I get the leather close outs. They should be here sometime this week, I think although it's supposed to rain for the next week and a half.

Remember the lowers (large and small) can easily be cut to desired design with a dremel. I liked the wind deflection of the larger lowers but not the look on my bike, to the dremel I went after marking my design. Problem solved.

Just out of curiousity, do you have a pic of the front of your bike?

Lowers are definitely the answer you are looking for. I have large plexiglass lowers that deflect just about all the wind from my face. You can feel it in the handling a little bit on a windy day, though.

I don't know if it would help your case but it might be something worth looking into.

If the crash bar close outs don't work, I'll definitely get a set of Chucksters big lowers.

I thought about that. It doesn't seem that Clearview makes a windscreen for my bike. I emailed them anyway to ask. Haven't heard back from them.

Here you go choose your height and width.
They make quality shields. https://www.7jurock.com/collections/...-up-windshield

I must say that Lowers on the forks ( had them on my 1500 classic) drastically change the wind in the ? Cabin/seat area?. Stops a lot of air flow up and around the gas tank.
One thing my guys at work use is a hair net over the beard and up around their ears. They say it is more comfortable than the beard nets. Just a thought. ?? But then again the longest beard at work is about 2". So maybe not?
