Finally Happened

I was running on borrowed time, finally laid the nomad down tonight

Did not fully bring the kickstand out before getting off

Damn that thing is heavy

It's amazing how much of a superhero strength you get once you dropped the nomad down.

The good thing is the bars did what they suppose to do

not a scratch apart from a little "ego" scuff ::)

Glad you and bike are okay. Egos heal pretty quick (except when they're permanently scarred like mine)

Been there, kind of. I dropped mine doing parking lot practice. Like yours, the bars did thier job and protected her. I also know what you mean about super hero strength picking her up.

Timebandit,

I think that we have all had our problem moment. Mine was on loose gravel trying to back it up. Foot just went out and it was oh crap.

Glad it wasn't damaged any. At least now it's over with. You're right about that "super-human" strength. The first time I dropped my Nomad was right in front of the house in the cul-de-sac. Practicing slow speed turns. Muscled it right back up with the handle bars. Don't know how I managed to do that. Of course I couldn't get it to start back up. Learned about the tip-over switch then.

One thing... and I mean ONE thing I have to give Harley... (I don't believe I'm getting ready to say something nice about a Harley)...
They have a kickstand that locks into position when it's down.

Damn, that didn't hurt too bad..... ::)

I'm glad it all worked for you and the only thing was your bruised ego. :) I wasn't so lucky. I was on a small road and was (thankfully) going extremely slow because I could see loose stuff in the curve. I tried to roll through the curve at about 10mph and just as soon as the tires hit the loose gravel on the road I went down. It happened in a blink of an eye - no sensation of falling. It was just like being on ice. I ended up with a broken finger and a busted up knee - both requiring surgery. Bike came through without a scratch. The crash bars are great and apparantly don't scratch easily. I'm paranoid of loose stuff on the road now.

Wasn't the kickstands fault...... I didn't bring it out all the way ::)

Happened to me about a month ago on a loose sand driveway. No damage to me or the bike. Needed help to get it upright, though. My feet kept slipping.

Glad you and your machine survived you oops moment. I bet you will give that stand a double check from now on. Funny how we learn new habits from things like this.

I've been there too. I once laid mine over while packing out on sand...managed to trap my leg between the handlebars and the tank and COULD NOT MOVE. Fortunately and embarrassingly, some people were around and helped me out. But as you know, picking up the bike is pretty easy if you do it right and I will assume everyone has seen the "Ride like a Pro" video. Ken

Glad you and your Nomad aren't permantly damaged by the incident.
I dropped mine one day setting it down on the kickstand. Put the bike in neutral like I alway did,even looked at the neutral light to make sure. Started over to let it down on the stand and let the clutch out at the same time.About the time I went past "the point of no return" I realized the Nomad was still in gear and from there all I could do was let her go.
Now I make sure she is out of gear and kill the engine BEFORE letting her down on the kickstand.
