Battery Ripoff??

I've been noticing a little hesitation when starting the Nomad the last few weeks. I bought it new in '05 and still have the original battery. The local dealer said battery life can vary from three to eight years but five plus years is probably a good time to get it replaced. They quoted me a retail price of $249 but would sell to me for $189.00. Are you kidding me!?!? I checked around a found a XTAX20H-BS for $84.99 at BatteriesPlus. Why is it so much more expensive going through dealers?

Battery Ripoff??

The battery goes through a few different channels when purchased from the dealer, and everyone wants to make a few points on it. When you buy direct you eleminate a few middle men and reap the savings.

Battery Ripoff??

mine did the exact same thing, like 275 bucks or something crazy, when I said WHAT THE F into the phone he came back with, well, that's a genuine Kaw battery!!!! let me see if I have any others. He came back on with some brand I never heard of for 130. I literally HATE having to call my local dealer. I ended up with that yauasa or what ever she is for 100 bucks off ebay. I ordered on wednesday night, it was in my hand thursday afternoon.

Battery Ripoff??

I haven't had to replace the battery in my Nomad yet, but did replace one on my old Honda Shadow. I think it was about $75 for a sealed gel cell battery. Dealers are a complete rip off on stuff like that.

Always ask your dealer for your "good customer discount" many times the prices come down. If not, I simply tell them that they are not competitive with other sources. Last Yuasa battery at the dealer was $119 out the door.

Dealers around here don't roll that many bikes out the door. They do generally have a huge markup on accessories to boost their profit.

That is the exact battery I was looking at today. I will get one this weekend.
